Il se fait connaître en 1984 avec son premier album « Barrence Whitfield and the Savages » qui contient 30 minutes de hurlements ! Suivra « Dig Yourself » en 1985 dans la même veine avec le sauvage « Juicy Fruit » Avec ce disque il devient un artiste culte en Europe. En 1987 est publié “Ow Ow Ow” certainement son meilleur album enregistré avec de nouveaux musiciens et peu de reprises ; « Girl from outer space » est interprété d’une voix hurlante de fausset ! En 1989 parait son premier enregistrement live « Emulsified » ,suit en 1990 « Let’s lose it » toujours aussi chaud. Ce touche a tout enregistre en 1993 deux albums de country « Cow boy mambo » et « Hillbilly Woodoo » avec le ‘folkeu’ Tom Russell ; En 1995, il fait un retour vers le style sauvage de ses débuts avec « Ritual of the Savages ». Un nouvel album devrait sortir bientôt.

Né à la Nouvelle Orléans le 25 octobre 1924,Earl Palmer fut l’un des plus grands batteurs de session de l’histoire de la musique moderne. Il rejoint après la seconde guerre mondiale l’orchestre de Dave Bartholomew en tant que musicien de session dans les fameux studios Cossimo Matassa à la Nouvelle Orléans. Il tient les baguettes sur le premier hit de Fats Domino « The Fat Man » enregistré en 1949 Dans la première partie des années cinquante, il accompagne de nombreux artistes de la Nouvelle Orleans ; Lloyd Price, Earl King, Professor Longhair, the Spiders, Ernie K Doe Son jeu de batterie nommé black beat annonce le passage du rhythm and blues au rock and roll comme le témoigne le « I hear you knocking » de Smiley Lewis de 1955 En 1956, Il est le batteur de session des enregistrements rock and roll que Little Richard met en boite pour Specialty. En 1957, il est recruté par Eddie Mesner le boss d’Aladdin records à Los Angeles tout en continuant à accompagner Fats Domino sur ses enregistrements Imperial Il va rapidement devenir le batteur de référence de Los Angeles enregistrant avec tout le monde. Earl Palmer est le batteur de classiques comme le « Summertime blues » d’Eddie Cochran,« La Bamba » de Ritchie Valens, « Twistin the night away » de Sam Cooke. En 1961, il enregistre un album solo « Drumsville » pour Liberty. Dans les années soixante il travaille aussi avec Phil Spector, on le trouve derrière les Ronettes les Righteous Brothers, et sur l’un des albums essentiels de l’époque le "River Deep Mountain High" de Ike & Tina Turner en 1966. On pourrait remplir des pages entières avec la liste des enregistrements de Earl Palmer introduit dans le Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. En l’an 2000. R.I.P
